Kunsthalle Art Museum, Hamburg - The Hamburger Kunsthalle on Glockengießerwall is the largest art museum in Germany. The Kunsthalle has its origins in 1817 when founded by the Hamburg Kunstverein, which held regular exhibitions since 1850 in the Börsenarkaden. The highlights of the collections in Kunsthalle are the medieval alters of Master Bertram and Master Francke, Dutch paint work of the 17 century, paintings of the German romanticism period, impressionism and classic modernism, as well as international contemporary art as of 1950. Reeperbahn street, Hamburg - The most famous street of Hamburg got its name from the old German word reep which means an old heavy rope for a ship. In the 17th century the night clubs and places of entertainment were established. On the Spielbudenplatz there were many theatres, beer halls, ballhouses and music palaces which attracted the citizens of Hamburg even further. In the 1960’s the Reeperbahn with its “Große Freiheit” became the centre of rockmusic. Everybody from the Beatles to the Searchers was performing in clubs like “Top Ten” or the “Starclub”.
