New York was so damn good that they named it twice, at least according to the song. Copenhagen, on the other hand, goes one better and actually managed to adopt the title: “Wonderful Copenhagen”... and in fairness to it, it is pretty wonderful. The city is something of a stopgap between mainland Europe to the south and the mysterious Scandinavian peninsula to the north, it is a little of both but, confusingly, very much neither of them at the same time.
Looking out upon Copenhagen from a height offers a very beautiful view indeed. The eye is met with terracotta coloured roofs and copper-green steeples stretching out into the horizon, these are broken up with placid canals, bicycle filled roads and intermittent squares. Though the city is more than just architecturally beautiful; the first thing any hapless tourist might notice is the sheer beauty and immense stature of the city's inhabitants... this must truly be the best looking city in the world. Though, annoyingly, they offer more than mere aesthetics and it is a fact that the Danish people are amongst the friendliest and most genial people on this spinning globe.
When most people think of the attractions Copenhagen has to offer they think of pretty little mermaid sitting atop the end of a pier... and then they get a bit stuck; though Denmark's capital has as much to offer as any other European city, if not a great deal more. With a sprawling theme park (which goes by the name of Tivoli) and Copencabana, a huge water-park based in the harbour, both right in the middle of the city centre... Copenhagen is offering amenities few other cities can lay claim to. This is of course before we even begin to delve into the city's historical and cultural attractions.
Drinking in the streets is legal and it is not uncommon to see people ,both young and old, out enjoying a stroll and a beer in warm summer evenings, and why shouldn't they when they live in the home of Carlsberg. 'Wonderful Copenhagen' has a million and one things to offer and traveller and it is a place that is rarely visited just once, it is very much so more than just a mermaid.
