Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires is regularly referred to as Argentina’s more sophisticated side- and often  gets compared to some of Europe’s larger capitals like Paris or Barcelona.
These comparisons are understandable this 24 hour city is full of wide bouleveards and big, cosmpolitan buildings that sit on top of a varied culture and extensive nightlife. Buenos Aires is definitely more european than its Latin American neighbours- as are it’s people who descend from italian immigrants and spanish founders.
This hot bed of influence has ran into the city’s art galleries, theatres, museums and restaraunts- where the origins of the port can well and truly still be tasted. Buenos Aires has also created it’s own exciting art forms-most notably the tango- which played a huge part in putting the city on the map.
Buenos Aires really comes alive after dark- but drinking culture is not a huge element of their party lifestyle. The portenós (people of the port) are far more inclined to have a few casual drinks as opposed to getting drunk during a night on the tiles. However, that doesn’t slow them down- with most clubs working their way into the wee hours during the weekends.
The nightlife here is really accessible for everyone- with entertainment options varying from tango shows to techno nighclubs. Nightlife is in its prime from Thursday to Saturday but you will definitely find something to keep you occupied thorughout the rest of the week.
The shopping in Buenos Aires is also of high standard with key areas like Palermo Viejo being compared to New York’s SoHo. This area is crammed with boutiques that specialise in the trendiest of fashion.
The market places are also brilliant in this region- particularly for colonial paintings and items made from leather (which Argentina is renowned for). There are also plenty of recently established shopping malls that are well-equipped and easy to get around.
Argentina is a city that has an extremely palpable atmosphere and culture that is both enjoyable and unavoidable. This is the perfect spot for those looking to keep busy over their holidays- running from sight to sight, shop to shop and bar to bed until you finally have to board your plane home (begrudgingly!).

Things to do
Puerto Madero
This former working dock is the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely stroll, or bite to eat. The area is adorned with beautiful old red-brick warehouses that have been recently converted into house galleries, bars and restaurants.
San Telmo
One of the Buenos Aires's oldest districts, these narrow streets and dilapidated buildings add to the heightened heritage of the area. There are plenty of cafés, book stores, antique shops and artist studios around the area as well as a bric-a-brac market that opens on Sundays. Tango music and dance demonstrations are often performed out on the square also- much to the delight of passerbys. Make sure to drop into the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires- where you can view some of the areas most acclaimed and experimental artwork.
Museo Evita
Evita has become the subject of various books, films and a stage musical-  this museum depicts this iconic Argentinian figure’s life story through a mixture of personal artefacts, dresses, photographs and audiovisual displays. Perfect for those interested in the social discourse behind present day Argentinia.
Teatro Colón
This Renaissance-style building, designed by Italian architect Francisco Tamburri, is regarded as one of the greatest opera houses in the world  and has seen some of the greatest dancers, composers and singers pack out its 2,500 seats. It is a definite visit for all art-enthusiasts!
